KGL Event History
SEASONS
The KGL Season is the Flagship event for The KGL, it is the event that started KGL in the first place, making it our longest running event, and the one event that all the KGL teams want to be a part of. Starting off as an invite event on a lowly clan site, it progressed to starting season 3 on the Xippy website which was to be home for The KGL until the approach of Season 10, which will hopefully bring in new features surrounding the Season, alongside the features we have already such as the weekly previews and the COTW videos. The event is made up of teams split into divisions based on skill, and teams fight it out every Sunday night during the season for the chance to gain promotion to a higher division and avoid relegation.
PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENTS
The Pre Season Tournament is the warm up event preceding The KGL Season event. It is used as a warm up event to give teams an opportunity to practice and get ready for the main event, and also is used as a tool for helping to seed the teams in the main season, with team skills varying greatly from season to season, it is a great way of gauging any skill change in previous teams, and assessing levels for new teams that play in it. The event is made up of teams placed in groups based on skill level and is played in a mini league format.
GRAND PRIX'S
An event like no other, the concept dreamed up by our very own Blade, this event is unique to The KGL and the only way to see how good it really is, is to sign up and see for yourself. It is an event played over several weeks, with a mini league format played out weekly, allowing teams to gain points relating to the position they finished in that week, relegation/promotion is weekly and the format allows for lower skill teams in the event to do as well as some of the higher teams points wise, so the event outcome is not all about the best teams winning. A truly genius idea and a lot of fun to play in.
KGL Cup Events
There are a variety of cup events run on KGL between Seasons, they provide a way of teams keeping their diary filled with competitive games in a tournament format, but with the knockout system the events are a lot shorter, and can span a few weeks or provide 2-3 matches on the same night. These give a bit of variety and again are broken into brackets depending on skill so all teams stand a fairer chance of doing well in their respective brackets. They are also a great method of practice and gauge of skill as they cater to a lot of the same teams in each event, so teams can keep a track of how well they are doing in a friendly environment.
FUN CUPS
These Cups do what they say on the tin, events designed purely for the fun of an event, whether it’s a chance to show off your deagle skills, or if you’re like Mofo, a legitimate chance to whip out your shotgun and make the opposition cry. Every fun cup has something different to offer, and there is something for everyone, for larger clans there are 10 v 10 games, where you can play from your own roster or combine with another team, or for the member who has ADHD there are deathmatch events where he can run all over the map to his hearts desire.
MAP CUPS
The map cup events are run in tangent with the season, and the maps are run alongside the maps that are in that particular season. An opportunity for teams to practice the specific map of that week, test and tweak their tactics, and possibly even steal a few ahead of the Sunday night game. A one night event with priority given to teams who are actually signed up for the main season event, although there is always room for a few strays to have a bit of practice.
RTL CUPS
This event is run monthly, and is sponsored by the main KGL Sponsor RTL Servers. Again split into skill brackets, teams are given the opportunity to win a server supplied by RTL for the month. Also a quite competitive event and one of our few prize events, although played as much for Kudos as the chance of the server.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT MADNESS CUPS
Wednesday night is given over to our madness cups, usually run impeccably by Kue, among his other duties in KGL he runs this event as a break from the usual irc matches that teams would be having on a Wednesday night. This event can vary from a straightforward knockout cup to a fun event with a twist, and are led very much by what the KGL members ask for.
SPONSORED EVENTS
Aside from the main season event, and the RTL monthly cups, we do on occasion offer companies the chance to provide larger prizes for an event, the largest one so far being the Audio-Technika/RTL events. Designed around the relaunch of the new RTL site, with a large prize fund being offered by both companies, the event was designed to maximise exposure for the companies while also remaining loyal to the KGL members who play here regularly with no prizes on offer, so alongside the main event for this competition, there was an exclusive prize pot put aside for KGL teams only giving them the opportunity to get their hands on goodies while still affording higher skill teams to come and see what KGL has to offer.
CHARITY EVENTS
Charity events are not something we are able to do very often, but the event is designed around teams who donate to a particular charity and get entered into the event, and the money being forwarded to the designated charity. We are always open to suggestions on charity events and welcome requests from members on this, and if we can do something for a charity we will certainly try our best.
