Steam account phishing

Steam account phishing

I've recently noticed a sharp increase in the amount of Steam Account Phishing emails I'm getting to personal and KGL emails accounts.

Phishing emails are from dodgy characters pretending to be from a company which they are not (in this case Steam/Valve) in order to steal your personal data.

These emails often use scare or bully tactics in order to frighten users into signing in on a fake website, and stealing your login data.

To protect yourself from these and any furture phishing scams, there's 2 things you should do:

  • If you receive an email like the one below, please don't click any of the links (or even open it, for that matter).
  • Go into the settings on your Steam client and Verify Your Email Adress if you haven't already done so. This will make account recovery a lot easier if the worst ever does happen.
  • Use common sense; if you ever get an email you're not sure about, stop and think "Would Valve really be sending me this?"

Example phishing email.

Avatar I get about 10 a day from blizzard :)

like SneerRolts said check the URL of the link they are trying to get you to go too.

it normally pops up near the bottom of the page when you hover over the link or right click on the link and your browser will give you something like 'copy shortcut or copy link' then paste this into notepad.

Avatar Look at the URL's as well, not on the email but where it would take you too... its normally very clear its some dodgey shit scam site.
